Guest WiFi benchmarks 2026
Measured on 22 October 2026 from paying CaptiFi venues: the 43 with guest sign-ins from April to September 2026, and the 22 of them on UniFi for the September 2026 sign-in rate.
What guest WiFi gives a venue back, measured across paying CaptiFi venues in 2026: how many new devices sign in, how many new guest emails each venue gains a month, and how often guests come back. Each figure comes with the population and the months it was measured on.

How many new devices sign in
In September 2026, 10,584 new devices joined guest WiFi at 22 CaptiFi venues running UniFi, and 55.4% of them signed in. That is the pooled figure, which gives the venues with the most devices the most weight. Taken venue by venue, the median was 62%.
It counts devices, so a guest with two phones counts twice, and a device that cannot show a login page at all (a smart TV, say) can never sign in. It is also a sign-in rate, which is a different number from the share of guests who agree to marketing: CaptiFi asks that question separately, after the guest taps Connect.
CaptiFi's dashboard does not show a sign-in rate. Its opt-in funnel starts at the submitted form, so it never sees the devices that joined and gave up before that. To work out your own, take the count of new devices on the guest network from your controller and divide your sign-ins by it.
53
new guest emails per venue a month at the median venue-month, April to September 2026
New guest emails a month
Counted as new contacts with an email address, per venue, per calendar month, across 152 venue-months. The mean of 133 sits far above the median because a few very busy venues lift it: only 3 of the 43 venues averaged 400 or more a month. Judge a small venue against the median venue-month and read the top bars as what a large, busy one reaches.

How often guests come back
With visits counted once per guest per day, about 30% of WiFi visits at CaptiFi venues came from guests who had been before. Counted as people, about 1 in 5 guests came back at least once.
Both are true at the same time. A regular visits many times, so regulars make up far more of the visits than of the guests. Whichever figure you quote, say which one it is.
The Returning rate on the CaptiFi dashboard is a third measure: the share of unique guests in the period you pick who connected more than once in that period. Expect it to differ from both figures here.
Why there is no review figure
CaptiFi does not record review counts over time, and it cannot see whether a guest who reached a review site went on to post. So this report publishes no review figure.
A set time after the visit (24 hours by default), CaptiFi asks a guest who agreed to hear from the venue to rate it. A rating at or above the venue's minimum sends the guest on to Google or another review site the venue has chosen, and a lower rating opens a private feedback form that still shows the public review links.
Each guest who agreed to hear from you is asked at most once every 90 days at a venue (Apple relay, unsubscribed and suppressed addresses are skipped), so keep requests switched on: every new guest who opts in is asked, and a regular is asked again once 90 days have passed. To count what the requests bring in, set the new reviews on your Google Business Profile against the period the requests were switched on.
Reading your own figures against these
If well under half your new devices sign in
The CaptiFi dashboard has no sign-in rate, so work yours out from your sign-ins and the new-device count in your controller. If it is low, start with the devices that never see the login page. A walled garden that lets a phone's connectivity check through, or a VPN that starts before the portal, hides the page completely; captive portal not showing up? covers both. Then look at the form itself, because every extra required field gives a guest another reason to give up.
If you gain fewer than 53 new guest emails a month
Footfall may simply be lower, which is why the median is the fair line for a small venue. Another leak is staff handing out the password to a network with no login page. Moving guests onto the open network with the login page puts the page in front of them. How to capture emails from guest WiFi walks through the set-up.
If you cannot see returning guests at all
The share of visits from returning guests can only be measured when the WiFi recognises a guest who has been before. Without that, repeat custom looks like anonymous footfall, and a win-back email has nobody to go to. WiFi analytics metrics covers which numbers to watch and where they sit in CaptiFi.
If few guests leave reviews
The total depends on how many guests are asked. Each guest who agreed to hear from you is asked at most once every 90 days at a venue (Apple relay, unsubscribed and suppressed addresses are skipped), so keep requests switched on: every new guest who opts in is asked, and a regular is asked again once 90 days have passed. Google Business Profile and guest WiFi covers what Google says reviews do for local ranking.
How the figures were measured
The figures were queried read-only from CaptiFi's production database on 22 October 2026. The population is the 43 paying CaptiFi venues that had guest sign-ins between April and September 2026. Demo, internal and test venues are left out, and so are demo-seeded and imported contacts, ticket buyers and staff rows.
- Sign-in rate
- UniFi venues only, September 2026: 22 venues and 10,584 new devices seen on guest WiFi. The share of those devices that signed in, pooled across venues (55.4%), and the median of the venues' own rates (62%). It counts devices, so one guest with two phones counts twice.
- New guest emails a month
- New contacts with an email address, per venue, per calendar month, April to September 2026: 152 venue-months. The percentiles and the mean are taken over venue-months; the 3 of 43 venues averaging 400 or more use each venue's own monthly average.
- Invitados que regresan
- WiFi visits counted once per guest per day. The share of those visits made by guests seen before (about 30%), and the share of guests who came back at least once (about 1 in 5).
- Reseñas
- No review figure is published. CaptiFi does not record review counts over time, and its review request records cannot show whether a guest went on to post.
- What is not published
- No venue is named, and no single venue's figures appear anywhere in this report.
