The problem

Hotels, co-working spaces and event venues give away something guests would happily pay for, then carry the bandwidth cost of everyone in range. Selling access usually means buying a separate hotspot billing system that knows nothing about your guests or your branding.

What CaptiFi does about it

Paid WiFi turns your existing splash page into a checkout. Add your own Stripe keys, build your passes, and switch the venue into paid mode. Guests pay you directly, their name and email come through from the payment and land in your guest database, and the dashboard shows revenue, passes sold and who is online right now.

What is in the box

  1. 01

Payments go straight to your own Stripe account, with your name on the statement and no CaptiFi commission

  2. 02

Up to 8 passes per venue, from 30 minutes to 7 days, each with its own price and label

  3. 03

Optional data allowances from 100 MB to 10 GB, or unlimited, tracked per guest and enforced automatically on UniFi, CaptiFi devices and RADIUS platforms

  4. 04

Optional speed tiers from 1 Mbps to 500 Mbps per pass, so faster WiFi can be the premium option (enforced on UniFi)

  5. 05

Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with Apple Pay and Google Pay toggled on or off per venue

  6. 06

Offer a free taster of 50 MB to 1 GB before the paywall, one free session per device every 24 hours

  7. 07

Buyers still land in your guest database: the name and email come from the payment, with no sign-up form

  8. 08

Revenue, last 30 days, passes sold and online now on the dashboard, with each currency reported separately

What is CaptiFi Paid WiFi?

Paid WiFi turns your splash page into a checkout. Instead of a sign-up form, guests see the passes you have built: a price, how long the pass lasts, and where you have set them, a data allowance and a speed. They pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through your own Stripe account and are online within seconds, then disconnected automatically when the time runs out, and when the data runs out on a platform that can enforce it.

Who receives the money?

You do, directly. You paste your own Stripe publishable and secret keys into the dashboard, so your venue is the merchant, your name is on the guest's statement, and Stripe pays you out on your usual schedule. CaptiFi takes no commission on a WiFi pass. The only deduction is Stripe's own processing fee, which you would pay on any other payment.

Do paying guests still join my marketing list?

Yes. There is no sign-up form on a paid page, so CaptiFi takes the guest's name and email from the Stripe payment details. They land in your guest database and your marketing audiences like any other guest, which means a paid network still builds the list a free one would.

CaptiFi is a guest WiFi marketing platform for venues, restaurants, hotels, cafés, retail spaces and short-term rentals. It turns branded WiFi logins into first-party customer data, automated Google review requests, repeat visitor insights and email marketing lists.

How it works

How to sell WiFi passes with CaptiFi and Stripe

1

Open Paid WiFi

In the dashboard, go to Integrations and click Configure on the Paid WiFi (Stripe) card. Once it is set up the page also lives under My Venues, Paid WiFi.

2

Connect your Stripe account

Paste your Stripe publishable and secret keys into the Stripe Connection card, choose your currency, and decide whether to offer Apple Pay and Google Pay alongside card. Keys are stored encrypted and write-only. Click Test connection to check them.

3

Build your passes

In Access Plans and Pricing, add up to eight passes. Give each one a label, a duration between 30 minutes and 7 days, a price, and optionally a data allowance and download and upload speeds. Around 1 for an hour and 3 to 10 for a day pass suits most venues.

4

Preview and go live

Use the preview URL to see your paid splash page with your real passes and prices, then switch WiFi Access Mode from Standard Splash to Paid WiFi. The page carries your existing logo, colours and terms automatically.

5

Watch the money come in

The Payments received table lists every payment with the guest name, email, plan, amount, status, data used and time left online. Guests are disconnected when their time runs out, and when their data runs out on the platforms that can enforce it, then buy another pass to carry on.

The numbers

What you can build into a pass

Commission to CaptiFi

None

Payments settle to your own Stripe account. You pay Stripe their processing fee and nothing to us.

Passes per venue

Up to 8

Each with its own label, price and duration. Inactive passes are hidden from guests without being deleted.

Pass duration

30 min to 7 days

From a quick hour in a cafe to a week in a serviced apartment.

Data allowance

100 MB to 10 GB

Or unlimited. Usage is tracked per guest and shown in the payments table.

Speed per pass

1 to 500 Mbps

Download and upload set separately, so premium passes really are faster. Enforced on UniFi.

Free taster

50 MB to 1 GB

Optional free data before the paywall, one session per device every 24 hours.

Worked example

A three-pass ladder that sells itself

You set your own prices in your own currency. This is the shape most venues land on: a cheap pass that gets someone online, a day pass that is obviously better value, and a premium tier for the guest who is actually working.

Example WiFi pass ladder showing duration, speed, data allowance and who each pass suits
Pass Duration Speed Data Suits
Quick 1 hour Site default 500 MB A coffee and an inbox
All day 24 hours 20 / 5 Mbps 2 GB A guest staying the night
Premium 24 hours 100 / 20 Mbps Unlimited Video calls and big uploads

The pass button on your splash page shows what the guest is buying, for example "24 hours of access, 100/20 Mbps", so the premium tier explains itself. Speed tiers are applied the moment the payment completes and are enforced on UniFi.

FAQs

Paid WiFi questions answered

Does CaptiFi take a cut of what I charge for WiFi?
No. You connect your own Stripe account, so guests pay you directly, your name is on their statement and Stripe pays you out on your normal schedule. CaptiFi takes no commission on paid WiFi passes; you pay Stripe their standard processing fee, as you would on any other payment.
What can I sell as a WiFi pass?
Up to eight passes per venue. Each one has a price, a duration between 30 minutes and 7 days, and an optional label such as All Day. You can add a data allowance from 100 MB up to 10 GB or leave it unlimited, and set download and upload speeds from 1 Mbps to 500 Mbps so faster WiFi can be your premium option.
How much should I charge for WiFi?
As a starting point, around 1 for an hour and 3 to 10 for a day pass suits most venues. Airports, conference spaces and event venues can charge more. You set your own prices per venue, in your own currency, and can change them whenever you like.
Can guests try the WiFi before paying?
Yes. Turn on free data before payment and guests get an allowance between 50 MB and 1 GB with no card and no sign-up form. When it runs out the guest is disconnected and shown your passes. Each device gets one free session every 24 hours, tracked by its hardware address, so a device whose address the network cannot read goes straight to the passes.
Do paying guests still end up in my guest database?
Yes. Paid guests never fill in a sign-up form, so CaptiFi records their name and email from the Stripe payment details. They appear in your guest database and marketing audiences like any other guest.
Which access points support speed tiers and data allowances?
Speed tiers are enforced on UniFi. On other platforms the tier is saved with the pass and shown to the guest, but the network does not apply it, so only sell speed tiers if the venue runs UniFi. Data allowances are enforced on UniFi, CaptiFi devices and RADIUS platforms such as Cisco, Aruba and Ruckus, are best effort on TP-Link Omada, and cannot be enforced on Cisco Meraki click-through.
Does the paid page still look like my venue?
Yes. The paid page uses your existing splash design: your logo, background, colours, button styling and terms all carry over automatically. A preview link shows the page with your real passes and prices before you switch the venue into paid mode.

CaptiFi completely changed my business. Before, every guest was a one-time booking. Now I have a direct line to thousands of people who've stayed in the plane. I can offer them return deals, send updates about new features, and keep them engaged. My repeat booking rate went from almost zero to 35%. It's been incredible.
