Team Notifications integration

Slack + CaptiFi

Get a Slack message in your team channel each time a guest connects to the venue WiFi, with their name and email. Native, set up per venue. 30-day free trial.

Overview

What does the Slack integration do?

Slack is a native CaptiFi connector on the Growth plan and above. Paste a Slack Incoming Webhook URL into the Slack card on my.captifi.io, switch the venue on, and each time a guest connects to the WiFi CaptiFi posts a message to your channel with the guest's name, the venue and their email. On the Pro plan, a Workflows step can post to the same channel.

The Slack integration is a native CaptiFi connector. Each venue connects its own Slack channel with an Incoming Webhook URL, pasted into the Slack card on the Integrations page of my.captifi.io, and from then on every guest who signs in to that venue's WiFi triggers a message in the channel. The message names the guest, the venue and the email address they gave, so the team on shift sees arrivals without opening the dashboard.

The message goes out for every connection, whatever the guest answered to the marketing question, since it is a notice for your staff. It carries the guest's email address, so keep the channel to staff who would see the guest list anyway. Ticket buyers added from your events page are not posted.

On the Pro plan, the Notify the venue team step in Workflows can post its own title and message to the same channel. Slack is included on the Growth plan and above, and a 30-day free trial started on Growth or Pro includes it.

What you get

Why connect Slack to CaptiFi

Arrivals in the channel you already watch

Each guest connection posts a short message with the guest's name, the venue and their email, so staff on shift know who has arrived without opening the dashboard.

One channel per venue

Each venue holds its own webhook, so a group can send each site to its own channel or bring them all into one.

Test before it goes live

Send test message posts a confirmation to the channel, so you know the webhook works before the first guest arrives.

Workflow notices on Pro

On the Pro plan, the Notify the venue team step in Workflows can post its own message to the same channel.

In the real world

How venues use Slack with CaptiFi

Hotel

The front desk keeps a Slack channel open. When a guest joins the lobby WiFi their name appears in the channel, so the team can greet returning guests by name.

Restaurant

An operations manager running several sites follows one channel per venue on their phone and sees how busy each site is getting as guests connect during service.

Coworking

A coworking space posts every WiFi sign-in to its front-desk channel, so the host can welcome day-pass visitors and offer a tour.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is the Slack integration live?
Yes. Slack is a native connector on the Integrations page of my.captifi.io, connected per venue with a Slack Incoming Webhook URL. It is included on the Growth plan and above.
What does the Slack message say?
It names the guest, the venue and the email address they gave, for example "Ada Lovelace just connected to WiFi at The Anchor (ada@example.com)". If the guest gave no name, it says "A guest".
Does it post guests who declined marketing?
Yes. The message is a notice for your staff, so it goes out for every connection whatever the guest answered to the marketing question. Keep the channel to staff who would see the guest list anyway.
Can each venue post to a different channel?
Yes. Each venue holds its own webhook URL, and each Slack webhook posts to one channel, so you can give every site its own channel or share one.
Can Workflows post to Slack?
Yes, on the Pro plan. The Notify the venue team step can send its message to Slack where the venue has Slack connected.
What if the webhook URL is shared by mistake?
Anyone with the URL can post to that channel, so treat it like a password. Remove the webhook in Slack and save a new one in CaptiFi.
